Florida Gulf Coast University’s Academic Building 9, The Water School (AB9) is predominantly an academic and research facility focused on marine and environmental sciences specific to the Florida environment. The architectural design reflects STEM education, with modular labs that are easily adaptable. The building includes short- and long term flexibility to accommodate changing academic programs throughout the life of the building. Exterior and interior collaborative spaces, maximal controlled daylighting, color palette, and material selection also contribute to a new building that promotes health and well-being among users and visitors alike. 


Teaching labs, research labs, applied research labs, tiered auditorium with 125 seats, multi-purpose classroom with 350 seats, general classrooms, open study areas, instructional media, administrative and faculty offices.


 AB9 was designed to meet LEED Silver criteria.
